Update: 10th May

Visit from Kumasi

Yesterday evening, after finishing his last exam, William came up to us. He is an engineeing student in his 3rd of 4 years and a Memeber of Teog Ghana. Recently they formed a group in Kumasi named Maintenance Support(What could they do? We might never know…)
Anyways, he took the monsterous jounrey with a public bus on his back to join us in Techiman.
so this morning three instead of two highly motivated TeoG’s marched to work. We introduced him to everyone as being one of us and then straight up included him in our work.
We returned a few thermometers and oxymeter. The main problem with these is not that they break, but that they have no batteries. And only the mighty maintenance department can replace them. You catch my drift. Since our task in teh hospital is mostly educational and awarenedd raising we talked to the staff about how to safely insert and extract dead batteries from the devices. It’s a fun topic ^^
On our last day we handed certificates to the memebers of the Maintenance Department, as proof of the completed trainings and as a motivation booster. Everybody was happy to get them, just a bit shy at first. We signed the Memorandum of Udnerstandig and cleared all the formalities.
As a gift we recieved “Hospital-Shirts” from the hospital. They are made from a special fabric designed on the 60th anniversary of the Holy Family Hospital. So that’s what they took our measurements for…They fit extremely well and look outstanding. As it is coustom for us now we paraded them around the hospital for the rest of our stay and got compliments and advise. Wearing a shirt under it or trousers under Annikas skirt is not normal. Who would have thought! We quickly changed.
We had a warm goodbye with the crew and went packing. While waiting for the driver we presented a TeoG Shirt to William. When he now represents us in the hospital he will have the propper attire. We dropped him in Kumasi and he got home safely.
Our drive to Agroyesum in general was quite the adventure! First, the car was overheating. We stopped on a farm and refilled the coolant in the pouring rain of a tropic thunderstorm. The car was quite wobbely in general and Anni’s door started leaking some water. After my door could not be opened we changed in Kumasi into the car from Agroyesum. This one managed very well. Even the road to Agroyesum. Ca. 7 km of rough dirt “road”. It was bad last time. It is worse now^^ deep puddels and holes the entire length. We were happy to arrive.
Many people greeted gave us a big warm welcome. I was supprised how many remembered me! Even the kid of our cook happily jumped on me when he saw me. Tomorrow we start work after a good long sleep!
