Water Tank Installation for School in Cape Coast

About the Project

Archbishop Amissah Memorial School is situated in the West of Cape Coast, which is one of the biggest cities in Ghana and lies 150 km west of Accra. The School has more than 400 pupils who stay in school from early morning till late afternoon. Currently the school’s facing a lack of water supply. They have pipe-born water, however it flows rarely and unfrequently. In average there’s less than one liter per pupil available per day. The students need the water for drinking, hand washing and dish washing, so one liter isn’t even fairly enough water. Therefore pupils and teachers have to get water from other water sources further away: They walk to the neighbor village to a well to fetch water and to bring it back to the school. So pupils have to fetch water instead of attending classes. However the water from the well is heavily polluted and hardly drinkable. Furthermore there are not enough bowls and towels provided by the school. To solve the water supply problem of the school, we will install a water tank to guarantee a sustainable, sufficient and constant water supply. The implementation will be carried out as explained in the following. Firstly concrete works will be executed to provide a high enough basement for the water tank. After that the water tank, which was selected and bought before, will be set up and installed above the basement (connected to the pipes). Meanwhile Victoria Buckets and Bowls will be set up in front of the main buildings. Afterwards teachers and pupils will be educated how to deal with the water tank and water in general.
