Arrival in the Kindom of Yams

2nd of September 17

Yesterday there was a national holiday, so there were not so many people working. Actually in the maintenance-department we checked a few times but nobody was there to be found. Because we prepared for that case we decided to do some paperwork. Amongst others we wrote the Memorandum of Understanding, which is an official paper between the hospital and TeoG to sum up what both parties are supposed to do and how this can work best. We had other Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) of earlier deployments but we wanted to change the system of the MoU to make it less paperwork and more handy for anybody to see the hard facts of what to do. After we finished the paperwork we went to town to get some refreshing malt drinks and sobolo, a typical Ghanaian drink with kind of a hibiscus flower, ginger, pepper and some other ingredients. When the sun started to set we had dinner and went to bed really early to safe some energy for the following weeks.

As we managed to work so much this week, we decided that we go to a sanctuary with two different kind of monkeys today. Actually on the way back we visited and took part in a “Yams-festival” where the chief of a region and the people living there celebrate together and have a big feast with meals made of the yams-root. When we arrived back at the hospital we did our laundry in a bucket in front of the building and hung them up to dry- they only take a few hours here because it’s so warm right now.
