Arrival in the Parish

Agroyesum is actually a lot different than Techiman- no Imans singing at 4 o’clock in the morning, no rooster screaming, no smog and no traffic sounds from the distance. This morning we went to the local church where half of the citizens of the village showed up. Sister Mary announced us afterwards and we went to the front and presented ourselves and the project we are here for. Right after church we explored the village, bought some dishwashing liquid and a cloth for cleaning, and along the way we watched some guys melting a nugget of gold and beating it flat. While we were waiting for lunch we started cleaning the kitchen and especially the dishes.

Then the estate manager Eric showed up and talked to us about the generators. He told us, that the problems with two of the generators are only minor, but that the big yellow one from John Deere has some major issues where we will have some work to do. After an amazing lunch with some kind of croquettes made of yams we met again with Eric and Benjamin, the hospital electrician to take a look at the generators. He told us about the problems of the big yellow one-where probably one piston is broken- and we decided to take it apart and to get all the spare parts and sealings, which are necessary, in Kumasi. Afterwards we went back to our house and started some research on the workshop manual for our generator. When we finished we had a nice cold beer on the veranda and enjoyed the peace of nature.
