Water supply for Technical High School in Cameroon, Bayangam
About the Project
Bayangam lies in the region of Western Cameroon in the tropical climate area and faces a dry season from November to February, and a rainy season from March to October. Several hand driven wells in the village are not deep enough, so that they can only provide water during the rainy season and run dry in the dry season. In this project, we aim to improve the water supply for the technical high school in Bayangam. A hydrogeological assessment will tell us, whether we can find underground water reservoirs beneath the school; If so, a deeper well can be drilled to supply drinking water all over the year. If not, at least the existing well can be cleaned and improved to ensure longer lifetime of the pumps and optimal water management. A solar plant for the pump will help to bridge power gaps in the local current grid.
Training and TeoG Cameroon
Along with the improvement of the water supply, we want to start a regional group of TeoG in Cameroon with students from the University in Bayangam and senior students from the high school. The group will get a technical training and a project management training, so that they can maintain our current projects in Bayangam and Nzindong as well as start new projects from the scratch. Find our latest Workshop video here.
TIme to move: after a first test the two water pumos for Nzindong and Bayangam start the journey to Cameroon. The pumps will be stored at one of our project partner’s until we are there. Unfortunately, our trip planned…
Earlier this year we were having a Workshop at the technical High School in Bayangam during our pre-exploration. The local info-station BIN (Bayangam Info Net) posted a movie about that, see parts of it here.
This week we received the water pumops for our projects in Nzindong and Bayangam from KSB and did a pre-installation. We did this to test whether all sensors and connections are working, before we send the pumps to Cameroon….
On Saturday, Stefan and Franzi came back from Nzindong with lots of good news. With the help of a geophysical measurement, it was possible to locate a sub surface water reservoir and complete the planning of the pump. It…
