4th & 5th of March – The Review: There and back again

I am looking for someone to share in an adventure…
Two eventfull days lay behind us:
A misty morning gave rise to the perspective of laying around for a day with nothing to do, nothing to build and nothing to prepare. Hell for two motivated young engineers. During breakfast and fantastic weather we learned that there is an Outreach Clinic with an incinerator form TwB we planned on reviewing just two kilometers from here – air distance.
Dipendra, up for the fun, agreed to search with us the way to Kattike Deureali. He had never been there either. Our target is marked with the yellow arrow, about 500 meters down to the river and 800 meters up over the pass. Within an hour we packed and set of. After some detours, rests with german pumpernickel, along narrow rocky path and self-sufficient farms we reached the outpost in 5 hours. Tired but with quite the sense of accomplishment we were welcomed by the four staff.

After a quick snack out of curry and fried pancakes we got straight to work. The incinerator is in good condition, all materials are there and the burner follows the procedure taught to him a year ago with great precision. So two hours and about 50 pictures later we had a quick dinner and set out to town for the hindu festival Shivaratri (Festival of Lights). One of the workers took us to her parents house where we ate traditional pudding and rice pudding with milk tea and where given a red dot on our forehad. Dipendra and his friend led us to the local hindu temple where they did their worship to Shiva and included us as far as possible. On this day there is a fire buring the entire night, there is music and dance throughout as well as prayer. Their hospitality way extraordinary and we are greatfull for the experience.

After a night in foreign beds we set out back to Bolde! Right after breakfast ( fried pancakes, curry and nepali milk tea) we walked over the pass, cruised down the mountain with ease and scalled back up in a lightning time of 4 hours and 2 mintues. Then the unbelivable happend: our bricks and blocks arrived. They made it. They made it mostly in one piece. And they made it in numbers great enough to build everything. Tomorrow is the day then – we can start the outer wall

With tiried regards,

Arne and Henning
