9th March – Welding the Crown

The tasks for our team were straight forward today: Continue building the Waste Yard and weld the Top-Frame for the incinerator.

Building the waste yard commenced directly after breakfast and with a short delay for preparations the construction of the top frame followed. This massive piece of metal is the second part of the heart of the project – the crown ontop of the inner wall. Both should be build with the highest precission avaialable. Better quality means smoother running and less and later maintenance. Which is why cutting eight pieces of U-Profile and welding them into a frame takes an entire day.

We measured angles, checked diagonals and lengths over and over again. But this isn’t a metal work shop – it’s a lot for building matieral. Things are a bit slant and rough. Which did not stop our crack welders from performing. All measurements are down to a millimeter deviation. It took endless cutting and a major correction after we discovered that our U-Profiles are indeed not rectangular – but we did it. The crown is complete. Only a few days until the coronation – and with it the first fire.

Precise regards from Bolde,
