Arrival in Agroyesum

9th of September 2017

10.04 am – The hospital pick-up rolls out. On time.

After a long breakfast with scambled eggs made by Heiko, we toured the hospital one last time to take pictures and off we went leaving behind Corinna and a bunch of good memories.

The ride was more relaxing than the others preceding it. No death defying passing maneuvers, a casual speed and making room for rowdies rather than playing a game of chicken with them. It got more interesting after we reached Kumasi and picked up Sam, also a Ghanaian TeoG-Member, and one of the Doctors of Agroyesum. Suddenly four of us were sitting in the back. The police check points were not even slightly phased by this and soon we reached the road to Agroyesum.

From here you had two ways to go on: a proper four wheeler or a skilled driver that knows his shit. We had both. The way went through puddles, following washed out dirt roads and crossed log bridges. No idea how the fuel truck did it that we met on the way. After having our stomaches properly shaken we arrived in Agroyesum.

This little island in the rain forest has about 600 inhabitants and the biggest hospital in the entire area. The last estimate that is known to the team is about 100.000 people that use this place as access to health care.

After the ride we could hardly hold it togehter: After 20 minutes Heiko had repaired the air conditioning and the clock on the wall and the rest of us rearranged the furniture. Tomorrow after church we will start with our work. Good thing that here at the edge of the world there are no Unions 😛
